Covingham Residents Plant Against New Housing On Covingham Park

Dozens  of green-fingered protestors planted 120 saplings to make a hedge on land in Covingham Park that has been earmarked for housing development.

Swindon Borough Council’s Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment suggests that 32 homes could be built around the park but residents and politicians have opposed the idea.

Cllr Kevin Parry said, “It was great to see so many people brave the cold and wet weather to plant the saplings which clearly demonstrates the passion and the pride residents have for our green and open spaces.”

“This is why we are pushing the council to move the boundary lines of the park lease to the Parish Council to protect the park for future generations.”
